Bringing New Services to Southern Indiana
With a new name and a new look, Floyd Memorial focused its attention on bringing new services to southern Indiana. Recognizing a need to address healthcare prevention and maintenance of wellness, construction was launched in 1995 for a 15,500 square foot Community Health Education Center. In March of 2001, the center was renamed the Paris Health Education Center in honor of the generosity of Dr. John Paris and his late wife Dorothy.
With
the construction of the center came the development of the Healthier
Community Initiative (HCI). HCI is a program that unites Floyd Memorial
with business and community leaders and representatives from the region's
healthcare agencies and schools, in an effort to proactively improve
the overall health of the community. Specifically, it was established
to promote healthy living through education and prevention. To achieve
this goal, the following Action Teams were developed: Access to Healthcare,
Cancer Awareness, Fitness, Nutrition and Safety, Positive Parenting,
Safe Kids, Healthier Schools and Healthier Communities through our
Churches.
In 1997, patients with diabetes were introduced to the region's most
comprehensive new resource for diabetes care. The Joslin Diabetes
Center at Floyd Memorial, affiliated with the prestigious Harvard-affiliated
Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, offers a wide range of education
and treatment services to help people with diabetes lead more healthy
and productive lives. The Joslin Center is located within the Ambulatory
Services Center which was renovated during Phase III along with office
space for Human Resources, Medical Staff Services and Medical Care
Management departments.
In 1998, the hospital launched an extensive renovation of its Women Center and the development of an Information Systems Building. The $2 million renovation of the Women's Center includes beautifully decorated all-private post-partum rooms, labor and delivery suites (LDRs) and a new state-of-the-art infant security system.
Investing in technology is a key component to Floyd Memorial's commitment to quality care for its patients. Moving toward an industry trend of storing medical records electronically, the hospital completed the construction of its 12,400 square foot Technology Information Center in 1999. The Center houses information systems, telecommunications and biomedical services.
Floyd Memorial's continued effort to provide our patients with convenient, accessible healthcare prompted the decision to bring its Magnet Resonance Imaging (MRI) services on-site. In August 1999, the new MRI Center was finished. The Center features a 1.5 Tesla magnet, which is the strongest available and creates the best images for diagnostic purposes. It was also designed with a skylight to increase patient comfort.
