Patient Care Comes First
While Floyd Memorial has gone through major transitions in its 52 years of service the one thing that hasn't changed is its continued commitment to its patients and communities. Throughout the past 9 years, Floyd Memorial has worked closely with Whittenberg Construction on their building projects. "They are great to work with and really understand the necessity of working around patient care," says Jerri Quillman, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Floyd Memorial. "It's important when you're working on a complex construction project that the needs of the patients are met. The staff at Whittenberg is both professional and easy to work with."
The most recent construction project was completed in September of 2001 with the opening of the Cancer Center of Indiana. The Center is a collaboration between the hospital and Cancer Care Center, Inc., a four-member oncology-hematology physician group. Drs. Aftab Chaudhry and Naveed Chowhan are owners of the 40,800 square foot center. Floyd Memorial's Radiation Therapy department is located in the lower level of the center. The Cancer Care Center is located on the first floor. The Center is one of the first in the region to offer both medical oncology and radiation oncology under one roof. In addition to space for the treatment of cancer, the Center also has resources for patients, education rooms and research.
In addition to the Cancer Center of Indiana, the hospital remodeled existing space this year into a state-of-the-art Pain Management Center and is making plans to expand its Sleep Lab in early 2002.
